back and forth

I’ve just spent the past couple of days researching and pricing various audio interfaces for my work-in-progress home studio. I’m attempting a substantial upgrade. While I can’t afford the realllly expensive stuff, I think graduating from the old 2001 A/D technology I’ve relied on for so long will probably slope our recording quality upwards a little bit (not that it wasn’t good before). Although, when you get down to it, recording a good song on a craptastic medium can sometimes yield great results. A while back, I heard that Bryan Free played a show with his drum machine recorded on a boom-box to accompany him and his magic piano. That’s fucking rad, I’m stealing that idea someday (sorry Bryan).
I’ve also been spending a bunch of time acoustically treating my room to cut down on unwanted echos and lame primary modes – you know the ones. This is all quite the pain in the ass, but I sure am learning a lot – and I’m really excited to begin recording some new songs.
All this work on the technical side of music is a little tedious, but don’t worry – I’ve still made plenty of time for mood swings, self loathing, and personal back and forth. I’ve especially sunk into myself the past few days…feeling guilty for not doing more than texting my $10 to Haiti…but that’s a whole other can of worms. How sad/(honest?) should these blog posts be?
Here’s a little honesty – the latest Cure album came on in my iTunes – it kinda sucks. Is it just me? Sorry, The Cure is one of my favorite bands of all time, but this thing is a real lemon…
